How to Use the PDF Editor on FreeHandyly
The FreeHandyly PDF Editor lets you mark up and change a PDF without installing software. Open a file, click any text to change it, add new text, draw, highlight, place shapes, insert pictures such as a signature, rotate or delete pages, and download the finished document. Everything happens in your browser, so contracts, forms and ID scans are never uploaded to a server.
- Open your PDF. Click the upload area or drag a PDF onto it. Page thumbnails appear on the left and the current page opens in the large view. If the file asks for a password, type it when prompted.
- Choose a tool. Use Select to move or resize items, Edit text to change existing text or type anywhere on the page, Draw for freehand notes or a signature, Highlight for a marker effect, Rectangle, Ellipse and Line for shapes, Whiteout to cover content with white, and Image to place a logo or signature picture.
- Click and place. Click any line of existing text to edit it in place, or click empty space where you want new text to start. Drag on the page to draw a shape or highlight. Change colour, text size, font and line width in the property bar, then switch to Select to adjust any item or press Delete to remove it.
- Manage pages. Rotate the current page, add a blank page after it, duplicate it, move it up or down, or delete it. Use Undo and Redo if you change your mind, and zoom in to work on small details.
- Download your PDF. Press Download PDF. The edited file is built in your browser with all your changes placed on the pages, and it is saved with the original name plus the word edited.
Why This Tool is Helpful
Paperwork rarely arrives in the form you need. A form needs a date typed into it, a contract needs a signature, a report needs a highlighted figure, and a scan arrives upside down. Many online editors upload your document to their servers, add watermarks or lock basic features behind a subscription. A browser-based editor keeps sensitive documents on your device and lets you finish small jobs in a minute.
- Students and job seekers can fill in application forms, add a typed date or signature and send a clean PDF.
- Freelancers and small businesses can sign contracts and invoices, add notes and stamp pages without printing.
- Office and finance teams can highlight key figures, circle items for review and reorder or remove pages before sharing.
- Teachers and reviewers can mark up assignments and papers with comments, ticks and underlines.
- Anyone with a scan can rotate sideways pages, delete blank ones and add a missing page.
What this editor can and cannot do
Click a line of text and type to change it. The editor reads the size, colour and style of the original, covers the old words and places your new text in the same position using the closest built-in font (Helvetica, Times or Courier). The original font file is not reused, so edited text can look slightly different, and the old text is covered rather than erased from the file data, so do not rely on this for secure redaction of sensitive information. Text in scripts such as Urdu, Arabic, Chinese or Hindi cannot be edited or typed in this version; as a workaround, cover it with Whiteout and write it with the Draw tool or insert a picture of the text. Scanned PDFs contain pictures instead of text, so use Whiteout and add new text there. Password-protected files ask for the password when you open them. PDFs with editing restrictions can still be marked up, but they are saved as page images, so their text cannot be selected.
Tips for clean results
Zoom in before placing small items so they line up precisely, and use the Select tool to adjust them afterwards. Keep text size between 10 and 14 points for forms so it matches the surrounding document, and use black or dark blue for a professional look. For signatures, draw slowly with a line width of two or three, or insert a transparent PNG of your signature so it can be resized. Download a copy after major changes and keep your original file, because the editor cannot recover a session after you close the page.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The file is opened and edited entirely in your browser and the edited PDF is created on your device. Nothing is uploaded, stored or shared.
Can I edit the existing text in my PDF?
Yes. Choose the Edit text tool, click a line of text on the page, change it and press Enter. The old text is covered and your new text is placed in the same position, size and colour. Text in non-Latin scripts and scanned pages cannot be edited this way; use Whiteout and add new text instead.
Can I sign a PDF with this editor?
Yes. Draw your signature with the Draw tool, or insert a picture of your signature with the Image tool, then move and resize it. This is a visual signature, not a certified digital signature.
Why does my text show question marks?
The built-in fonts support Latin characters only. Characters outside that set are replaced with a question mark when you download. Use Draw or Image for other scripts.
What happens with password-protected or restricted PDFs?
If a PDF needs a password to open, the editor asks for it. PDFs that open freely but forbid editing can still be marked up, but they are saved as page images, so the text in the new file cannot be selected.
Is there a size limit?
There is no fixed limit, but large files depend on your device's memory. If the page becomes slow, edit fewer pages at a time.
How do I edit a PDF online for free?
Open your file, click the text you want to change or choose a tool such as draw, highlight or shapes, make your changes and download the finished PDF. Nothing needs to be installed and no account is required.
How do I rotate or delete pages in a PDF?
Open the file, use the page controls to rotate the pages that are sideways or delete the ones you do not need, then download the new PDF.
